The 19th Annual C. Michael Steadman Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the prestigious Lederach Golf Club in Harleysville, PA

Charles Michael Steadman Jr., a veteran of the armed forces of the United States of America, was killed in a car accident outside Fort Campbell, Kentucky on August 31, 1993. His wife was critically injured and is still recovering in the York, PA. area. His family and friends to keep his memory alive established the CMS Foundation weeks after his death. Supported by donations and an annual golf tournament, it finances four scholarships and supports the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The scholarships are established at Lock Haven University, Pennsylvania Army National Guard Unit; 228 ENG CO located in Spring City, PA, C.T.E. Allied Health Programs at Montgomery and Chester County and Phoenixville Area High School. The scholarships are given to students who demonstrate the traits and accomplishments similar to Michael. The Army National Guard scholarship is given to a student continuing their education while serving in the Armed Forces. The Lock Haven University scholarship is given to a graduating Lock Haven University student who demonstrates academic and service excellence and is entering Lock Haven’s Physician’s Assistant Program. The Phoenixville Area High School and C.T.E. Allied Health Program scholarships are given to a graduating senior who demonstrated academic, athletic and service excellence and who will attend a school of higher learning in a health related field.

Michael was born in Statesville, North Carolina and grew up in Crofton, Maryland then Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. He attended Phoenixville Area High School and was a standout place-kicker on the football team. He was very active in community service work and was a friend to all who knew him. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club and was involved in their many community service projects. Michael volunteered as a trainer for his high school football teams and instructed the specialty teams. Michael was of good Christian faith, kind, good-hearted, generous, had a great sense of humor, and always willing to help others. Michael cared about people and he loved his Country. Michael served six years at the Pennsylvania Army National Guard Unit, HEADQUARTERS Charlie Battery 1st Battalion, 213th Air Defense Artillery located in Spring City, PA before enlisting into the United States Army at Ft. Campbell, K.Y.

Michael graduated from Lock Haven University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Allied Health Science. He was a certified personal trainer and an emergency medical technician. He was extremely active in Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and spent many hours helping others through their community service work. He and his wife Stephanie were married on June 21, 1993, four days after Michael’s 29th birthday.

Michael was stationed as part of the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky with the Medic Platoon, Headquarters Co., 3rd Battalion, and 502nd Infantry Regiment. He was a platoon leader and assigned to the Scout Platoon (better known as the Recon Unit) because of his extraordinary physical ability and knowledge of the human body. He was an excellent soldier and cared about his fellow men. He was scheduled to start Ranger School in October when this tragic event occurred. Michael was a graduate on the Air Assault School, was stationed in Fort Benning, GA, A.I.T., and graduated then served at the Combat Medic School in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He earned the National Defense Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and Air Assault Badge. He was an expert in Rifle, Pistol, and Grenade. He was awarded the Army Achievement Commendation Medal for saving soldiers lives during time stationed in Puerto Rico.

Christian League for Battered Women, a/k/a Tranquility House is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization located in Cartersville, Ga. The shelter was founded in 1985 to shelter the victims of Domestic Violence. Over the years the needs of our community and state have vastly changed in regards to Domestic Violence which has impacted the services our shelter now provides.

The mission of Tranquility House is to provide an emergency shelter as a refuge for victims of domestic violence and their children, a 24 hour crisis hotline, peer counseling, and children’s programs. We work hard to provide each family with the services needed to assist them during this difficult transition.

Many women and children come to the shelter with little to no personal items. It is important to have the very basic necessities available for them.

We hold this annual charity event every year as one of our fundraisers and to bring awareness of Domestic Violence.

The Azalea Charities’ Aid for Wounded Warriors is a not-for-profit project that provides comfort and relief items for soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who are sick or injured as a result of their service in Iraq and Afghanistan. This project has been extremely beneficial in helping lift the spirits and morale of these brave service men and women who have served our country so courageously. For more information on Azalea Charities’ efforts, I encourage you to visit their website at www.azaleacharities.org.

This country has historically answered the call to duty, and as a nation we have always rallied behind those who have served. This charity event is just a way for us to show our appreciation and hopefully make a difference in the lives of those who have given so much.

This is how you can support:

1. Please consider participating in any of the available company sponsorship opportunities. Not only will you be contributing to AWS, but you will also be promoting your organization to executives, managers and others within the defense industry.

2. Please consider donating an item for our door prize giveaway or silent auction. Last year we gave away fantastic prizes, including restaurant gift certificates, sports apparel, golf clubs and electronics.

3. Please join us for the tournament! We welcome you to bring a team and join us for what will assuredly be a fun day.

For over 30 years, CURE Childhood Cancer Association has been providing emotional, educational, financial and social support for the area’s children and families who are fighting cancer. In recent years, due to improved rates of patient survival, CURE has been providing continued support for long-term survivors.

The 10th annual CURE Kids Cancer Classic – on Friday, August 3rd, 2012 at Ravenwood Golf Club – will help enable CURE to continue its work for children and their families who face the medical challenge of a lifetime.

“CURE Kids Cancer Classic represents a major step for CURE in its efforts to provide children and their families with support and advocacy as they fight this very difficult disease,” says Gary Siwicki, a member of CURE’s board of directors and chair of the golf tournament. “Thanks to our sponsors and supporters, and to the staff of Ravenwood Golf Club, we’ve put together a first-class event that will raise much-needed funds for CURE.”

What is Academic Decathlon?

Academic Decathlon is an an elite high school competition that includes a battery of ten tests: mathematics, economics, history, science, essay, interview, speech, art, music, and literature. Unlike other academic programs, Academic Decathlon teams are made up of A, B, and C students. The goal is provide a more holistic and advanced academic competition and to recognize students who push themselves far past the standard curriculum.

Where does this money go?

The money raised goes towards buying studying materials, books, quizzes, tests, food, transportation, and paying for registration fees for competitions.

What is the course like?

Diamond Oaks Country Club’s 18-hole championship golf course is one of the best layouts in the area. The course features a creek that meanders throughout the property and comes into play on six holes. Strategic bunkering and 100-year old oak tree lined fairways provide aesthetic beauty for members and guests. The golf course is named after a 150-year old Oak Tree that still resides on hole number 15.

Greetings,Welcome to the Ducks Unlimited -

Brandywine Chapter’s 2nd annual Golf Classic

and Auction at Bidermann. We are excited

to continue this event as one of our

fund-raising efforts and promise to deliver

another memorable experience at one of the

region’s most prestigious golf courses.

Ducks Unlimited is the world leader in wetlands

conservation having restored and

conserved nearly 13 million acres of crucial

habitat that benefits waterfowl, other wildlife

and people. Through your generosity, the

money raised at the golf classic will directly

support wetland and marsh improvements

in the important summer breeding lands to

the North and the critical wintering grounds

here in the Mid-Atlantic. Generous support

for our local Ducks Unlimited chapters is the

reason that Delaware continues to be one

of the top ranked states in the country. In

all, over 12,000 acres have been conserved

within our State, ensuring healthy duck and

wildlife populations for future generations.

We hope that you’ll consider a sponsorship

for what is certain to be the golf event of

the season. By doing so, you’ll have the opportunity

to both participate in a great event

and support a great cause.

Sincerely,

Ducks Golf Classic Committee

Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) is a school based after school program established in 2004 in Arlington, Virginia. It was disigned to meet the students’ need to have a program that spoke to their particular concerns of young Latinas who are possibly the first in their families to attend college and may not have the support and knowledge of how to get there and graduate.

Since 2004 the program has expanded to include all of Arlington’s comprehensive high schools as well as most middle schools in the county. In 2010 LLT expanded to include two chapters in Fairfax County and three chapters in Manor, Texas.

LLT now serves over 300 students per year. Program alumni currently attend a variety of universities, including James Madison, George Mason, Mary Washington, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Marymount, Carnegie Mellon and Richmond University. These students return during their breaks to share their experiences with current LLT students. LLT is proud to have one of the founding high school students on its advisory board and assist in the coordination of LLT’s annual Latina power conference.
