Welcome to the American Cancer Society’s 2012 Southern California Invitational, and Inaugural Southern California Invitational Night of Distinction honoring Eddie Merrins.

For the past 23 years, our premier golf tournament in Southern California has raised money to help the American Cancer Society save lives and create a world with more birthdays. We cordially invite you to participate in our 24th Annual Southern California Invitational honoring Eddie Merrins, and encourage you to register early. Not only will you have fun and enjoy the health benefits from an exciting round of golf, but you’ll also support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against a disease that has taken too many lives.

This year, we are excited to introduce our Inaugural Southern California Invitational Night of Distinction honoring Eddie Merrins. The “Little Pro” will be presented with the first “Eddie Merrins Lifetime Achievement Award”. The event will be held at the exclusive Riviera Country Club, following the golf tournament. Golfers and guests can expect an evening of exquisite food, cocktails, silent and live auctions, in a business casual atmosphere, where the Southern California Invitational winning team will be awarded the Jack Nicklaus Cup and retain it for one year. Don’t miss this special evening at the Southern California Invitational Night of Distinction with over 200 guests committed to finding a cure.

For nearly a century, the American Cancer Society has fought for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. By taking what we’ve learned through research and turning it into what we do, we have contributed to a 15 percent decrease in the overall cancer death rate between the early 1990s and 2005. That means that we helped avoid about 650,000 cancer deaths and created the potential for more birthday celebrations. Overall, 11 million cancer survivors in America will celebrate a birthday this year.

The Embrace Home Loans MetroBoston Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf Open will be held Monday, July 30th at Granite Links Golf Club at Quarry Hills in Quincy, MA.

Granite Links was rated by Golf Digest as one of the “Top Ten Best New Upscale” golf facilities in the country and in 2009 / 2010 as one of the “Top 100 greatest golf courses” in the country. This is a great opportunity to play an excellent course while helping to raise funds for a great cause.

The tournament raises support for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes which exists “to present athletes and coaches and all whom they influence the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.” Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA is the largest Christian sports organization in America and focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ.

The cost for this event is $250 per player. This price includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, lunch and awards program, golf shirt, gift bag, and the opportunity to win great prizes. Registration begins at 6:30 am with continental breakfast provided; followed by a shotgun start at 7:30am.
