The 3rd Annual Jasper Johnson Memorial Golf Outing benefits The Children’s Heart Foundation, which funds the most promising research to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of congenital heart defects. Congenital heart defects are the #1 cause of birth defect related deaths. In the last decade death rates for congenital heart defects have declined by almost 30% due to advances made through research. We thank you for taking the time to join us and help raise awareness and funding for such a cause. We hope through research, children affectd with chd’s, as our son Jasper was, will be able to live long and happy lives.

Since 1974, the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center has cared for over 18,000 of the regions smallest and sickest newborns in a family-oriented environment. Located on our Memorial Campus and part of our comprehensive Children’s Medical Center, our NICU is nationally recognized for its quality care. UMass Memorial has the only Level III NICU in Central Massachusetts, as well as the only high-risk obstetrical service. A national success story today, the NICU admits over 550 low birth weight and high risk infants who receive care in a 43-bed NICU; a showcase of family centered care and design. This year, a couple from California, touched by stories of the exemplary care given to newborns and their families at UMass Memorial Medical Center, has made an anonymous donation of $1 million towards an important redesign of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, a gift that will further the lifesaving care provided t o patients from throughout Central New England. This gift represents half of the cost of the capital improvements in the NICU. Although the overall square footage of the NICU will not expand, the redesign of the unit will include new rooms, some of which will be private for the most acutely ill infants. The NICU redesign will further reduce the external stimuli that can be stressors for newborns and will enhance our family centered environment allowing parents to stay in the hospital around the clock with their infants. We are inviting you to join us in this exciting project, as the NICU celebrates its 36th anniversary, by becoming a sponsor or golfer for the 18th annual Tee Up for Tots Golf Tournament. The Tournament will take place on Monday, August 09, 2010 at Mt. Pleasant Country Club in Boylston, MA and includes 18 holes of golf, a live auction and dinner. Player fees: $350 per player/$1400 foursome

Tell Us More: *	I am a college student who recently had a friend hit by a car while she was riding her bike because the woman behind the wheel was distracted by her phone. I have taken this incident which impacted my life on a profound level, and partnered with a non-profit organization that deals with the educational aspect of the affects and dangers of texting or talking while driving. The charity tournament will be held at Braemar Country Club–a private country club in Los Angeles, CA–and all the proceeds will be going to this non-profit organization to continue educating the masses.
