The purpose of this charitable event is to raise social awareness, empower community involvement, and most importantly increase monetary funding for Georgia’s homeless veterans. This cause is worthy because While most homeless veterans are single unaffiliated men, most housing money in existing federal homelessness programs, in contrast, is devoted to helping homeless families or homeless women with dependent children. This is event will be held at the Lake Spivey Golf Club, one of metro Atlanta’s premiere golf courses located at 8255 Clubhouse Way Jonesboro, GA 30236. The tournament will begin with a color guard unit’s salute to our country’s flag followed by what is expected to be a great day of golf. During this amazing charity event we encourage the metro Atlanta community to support and help make a difference in the lives of those that help protect our country. |

| I am writing to you today in regards to my son Nathan and for many other children too. Nathan was 2 weeks shy of his 3rd birthday when he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He will be insulin dependant for the rest of his life. Nathan who is now 4 ½ years old has endured over 8.500 finger pricks, 1000 insulin shots, and a site change every 3 days. In addition to his numerous finger pricking and insulin injections, everything he eats or drinks needs to be weighed and measured, and blood sugars need to be checked while sleeps, plays, attends school and so forth. Nathan is a trooper and rarely complains. He is full of smiles, active, smart and most of all full of life, amidst his daily diabetes routine. He just started Pre-K and amazes us everyday on how much he has learned about his disease and how to educate others.
There are so many devastating diseases in our world right now, and that saddens us. The difference with Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes is that wiping it out of existences is extremely attainable and yet reachable. I hope one day I will be able to tell him to put down the glucose machine, its no longer needed. We believe that by time he reaches High School with the help of others our hope will come to reality. The Rockin’ Peeps are your average diabetes families. Formed from a community of children who have been living with diabetes. We know that insulin is not our cure and only life support, so on November 13, 2010, The Rockin’ Peeps are hosting a “Tee off “fore” a CURE” day at Canongate Summergrove Golf Course. All proceeds will benefit the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). You and others can help too with donations big and small. We are asking for sponsors, players, or just simple donations. With a positive outcome we can all make a difference. As parents, its our instinct from the moment our children are born to protect them from any harm. My only way now is to help find a cure. Please help us, help all the kids and adults living with Type 1 Diabetes. Together we can make a difference. |
