organizations, YAI accomplishes its mission by providing out-of-school time programs that promote

health and physical fitness, academic growth, self-discipline, leadership skills, and self-sufficiency for

young people ages 8 through 18. YAI is committed to providing comprehensive programming that

addresses the needs of the whole child. Programs include: tutoring/homework help, the Saving

Our Sons Mentor Program, the Baby Think It Over Pregnancy Prevention Program, Art, Dance,

Robotics, Chess, Book Club and various sports programs.

Honoree: Rod Strickland

Rod Strickland, a Bronx native, played youth basketball under the leadership of

our Executive Director, LaMarre Dyson, and later joined with him to co-found

Young Athletes Inc. in 1997. Mr. Strickland has been a benefactor of the

organization since its inception and continues his involvement as a Board

Member Emeritus. Mr. Strickland is a 17 year veteran of the National

Basketball Association and is currently an integral member of the

Men’s Collegiate Basketball Staff at the University of Kentucky.
