Pancreatic Cancer is the fourth leading cause

of cancer death in the United States, but

receives the least amount of research funding

of the major cancers. The proceeds from this

golf tournament will directly the Pancreatic

Cancer Alliance.

The Pancreatic CancerAlliance is a non-profit group that helps fund

the pancreatic cancer research program at

UMass Medical School. Their website is www.

pancreaticalliance.org.

Last year, we raised just over $10,000, and we

hope to increase that amount this year with

your help.

Our hope is that someday, others will not have

to lose their loved ones to such a heartless and

ruthless disease. It’s important now more than

ever to find a cure for cancer. We miss Ed more

and more everyday, but events like this help

keep his spirit alive.

We invite you to participate in this golf

tournament as a player, hole sponsor or

supporter to raise money in Ed’s memory!

Since 1974, the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at UMass Memorial Children’s Medical Center has cared for over 18,000 of the regions smallest and sickest newborns in a family-oriented environment. Located on our Memorial Campus and part of our comprehensive Children’s Medical Center, our NICU is nationally recognized for its quality care. UMass Memorial has the only Level III NICU in Central Massachusetts, as well as the only high-risk obstetrical service. A national success story today, the NICU admits over 550 low birth weight and high risk infants who receive care in a 43-bed NICU; a showcase of family centered care and design. This year, a couple from California, touched by stories of the exemplary care given to newborns and their families at UMass Memorial Medical Center, has made an anonymous donation of $1 million towards an important redesign of the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, a gift that will further the lifesaving care provided t o patients from throughout Central New England. This gift represents half of the cost of the capital improvements in the NICU. Although the overall square footage of the NICU will not expand, the redesign of the unit will include new rooms, some of which will be private for the most acutely ill infants. The NICU redesign will further reduce the external stimuli that can be stressors for newborns and will enhance our family centered environment allowing parents to stay in the hospital around the clock with their infants. We are inviting you to join us in this exciting project, as the NICU celebrates its 36th anniversary, by becoming a sponsor or golfer for the 18th annual Tee Up for Tots Golf Tournament. The Tournament will take place on Monday, August 09, 2010 at Mt. Pleasant Country Club in Boylston, MA and includes 18 holes of golf, a live auction and dinner.

Player fees: $350 per player/$1400 foursome

For fifteen years we have been humbled by the kindness and generosity of individuals and businesses alike, who understand the importance of supporting the “The John L. McGuirk Memorial Golf Tournament”. Over $100,000 has been raised to benefit medical research and treatment of high-risk pregnancies at Massachusetts General Hospital Vincent Service and the North Shore Cancer Center’s Wellness Fund, which helps to counsel and support children of families who are coping with the ravages of cancer.

With the tough economic times, everyone’s dollar is stretched. However, please remember that there are no economic boundaries for cancer or high-risk pregnancies. They can strike anyone at any time, without warning.

Cancer is an insidious disease that taxes families in countless ways; physically, financially, emotionally. There is no more hopeless feeling than watching someone that you love struggle with this singularly devastating illness. This is why once a year we gather in solidarity to help others, while spending an enjoyable afternoon on the links.

The American Cancer Society’s annual Hope Lodge Boston Invitational will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 at The Kittansett Club, one of the nation’s most prestigious member-only golf clubs. The Kittansett Club in Marion, Massachusetts, is consistently ranked in Golf Digest’s top 100 courses. The Club is situated at the end of Butler Point which extends several miles into Buzzard’s Bay. The location provides a classic seaside golf course experience. A challenging day of golf is capped off with a casual cocktail reception and dinner overlooking the Bay.

More than 100 golfers are expected to attend and will include corporate sponsors, business and philanthropic leaders, underwriters, and guests. Our target market for the Hope Lodge Boston Invitational includes corporate, medical, banking, health, legal, and accounting companies.

All proceeds from the Hope Lodge Boston Invitational support the newly opened AstraZeneca Hope Lodge Center in Boston, a program of the American Cancer Society. This 50,000 square-foot facility annually provides free lodging and support services to more than 1,500 cancer outpatients and their caregivers who must travel far from home for treatment in Boston. In addition, the building houses a Community Resource Center that serves local residents by providing access to free information, resources, and society programs and services.
