What is Academic Decathlon?

Academic Decathlon is an an elite high school competition that includes a battery of ten tests: mathematics, economics, history, science, essay, interview, speech, art, music, and literature. Unlike other academic programs, Academic Decathlon teams are made up of A, B, and C students. The goal is provide a more holistic and advanced academic competition and to recognize students who push themselves far past the standard curriculum.

Where does this money go?

The money raised goes towards buying studying materials, books, quizzes, tests, food, transportation, and paying for registration fees for competitions.

What is the course like?

Diamond Oaks Country Club’s 18-hole championship golf course is one of the best layouts in the area. The course features a creek that meanders throughout the property and comes into play on six holes. Strategic bunkering and 100-year old oak tree lined fairways provide aesthetic beauty for members and guests. The golf course is named after a 150-year old Oak Tree that still resides on hole number 15.

How do I pay?

Please make checks payable to “RHS Academic Decathlon” and mail them to:

Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT) is a school based after school program established in 2004 in Arlington, Virginia. It was disigned to meet the students’ need to have a program that spoke to their particular concerns of young Latinas who are possibly the first in their families to attend college and may not have the support and knowledge of how to get there and graduate.

Since 2004 the program has expanded to include all of Arlington’s comprehensive high schools as well as most middle schools in the county. In 2010 LLT expanded to include two chapters in Fairfax County and three chapters in Manor, Texas.

LLT now serves over 300 students per year. Program alumni currently attend a variety of universities, including James Madison, George Mason, Mary Washington, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Marymount, Carnegie Mellon and Richmond University. These students return during their breaks to share their experiences with current LLT students. LLT is proud to have one of the founding high school students on its advisory board and assist in the coordination of LLT’s annual Latina power conference.

The Els for Autism Golf Challenge is the largest amateur, charity-driven, national tournament in U.S history. It comprises of 30 Super Regional events around the country from May through September with a Grand Finale in Las Vegas on October 23/24. One of those Super Regional events is being hosted at TPC San Antonio on September 13, 2011.

The TPC San Antonio event costs $400 to enter per two-person team ($200pp). This includes the golf, cart, lunch and tournament gifts. Participants will be competing for the chance to qualify for the Grand Finale which will be hosted by Ernie Els in Las Vegas on 23/24 October. Grand Finale prizes include luxury trips to South Africa, South America and England courtesy of Mantis and sets of Callaway golf clubs complete with bag and customized fitting.
There are three ways for a team competing in a Super Regional event to make it the final – be the low net winner, the highest fundraiser or raise $10,000 more and automatically qualify. Once teams sign up they are given a dedicated team webpage to personalize and send out to friends, co-workers etc…to ask them to sponsor their team. Essentially teams start competing the minute they sign up! Whilst fundraising is encouraged it is not a prerequisite of taking part. As a fun incentive, teams raising $2,500 or more will be automatically entered into the Fundraisers’ Prize Draw for a chance to win a 7-day ultimate IRISH LINKS golf tour to Ireland.

Proceeds from the Golf Challenge will go towards creating the Els Center of Excellence that will reach out to help children on the autism spectrum across the U.S and internationally.

Did you know young Latinas have incredible odds to beat to graduate from high school or college?

Latinas are the fastest growing group of female school aged youth

Many of our young Latinas lack education and career role models among their family and peers to help them set goals

Latinas have the highest female high school dropout rate (42%)

Latinas have the highest teen pregnancy rates of any racial or ethnic group

Young Latinas hold the highest rates of attempted suicide

The devastating results of these statistics are too much to ignore. Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT), a school based mentoring and leadership program which aims to inspire young women into leadership roles and eradicate achievement gaps, was created to change these statistics.

Our program uses leadership training, mentoring, career presentations and cultural identity activities to excite young women into success driven mindsets. They are encouraged to reach their goals and to believe in their strengths as Latinas. LLT serves 14 schools in Virginia and three in our state of Texas. LLT’s target populations are Latina students in middle and high school who are the first in their families planning to attend college in the U.S.

On March 12, 2011, LLT will hold its “Swinging for Education” Golf Tournament at Spicewood Course at Balcones Country Club. The “Swinging for Education” Golf Tournament will benefit our educational, leadership and community service programs.

We are asking for donations for our goody bags, door prizes for our raffle, longest drive and closest to the pin contest. You may also be an Albatross Sponsor for $2,000, Eagle Sponsor for $1,500, Birdie Sponsor for $750 and a Tee Box Sponsor for $75. Your donation is tax deductible (74-6003097). Anything you or your company can contribute would be greatly appreciated. We anticipate approximately 80 participants. The golf tournament is open to all golfers.

The Latinas Leading Tomorrow at Manor ISD currently has 45 members, sustains a club GPA above a 3.4 and has completed over 400 volunteer hours collectively this school year so far. This is what we strive for … will you or your company help us? Your investment in our students’ futures will yield priceless returns!

PartnershipsInAction is an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation USA (AKF), an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), whose overarching goal is to end global poverty by building resilient, self sustaining communities in some of the poorest regions of the world.

The focus of PartnershipsInAction is to create awareness, build partnerships and raise funds to support AKF’s innovative programs. AKF USA, established in 1981, is a private, nondenominational, nonprofit international development organization committed to alleviating poverty, hunger, disease and illiteracy, primarily in the developing world. The Foundation works to address the root causes of poverty by developing model programs and sharing innovative solutions in the areas of health, education, rural development, civil society and the environment. Presently engaged in over 100 major projects and programs in 18 countries, the Foundation’s programs are designed to lend a helping hand and not a hand-out, endorsed by the conviction that self-help brings dignity, self-respect and the realization of human potential. For more information, please visit partnershipsinaction.org.

As we prepare for our 5th Annual PartnershipsInAction Charity Golf Tournament and Awards Dinner, to be held at the Canyon Springs Golf Club, located in North Central San Antonio, on October 3rd, we are seeking corporate sponsors to support us. We are confident that this will be a worthwhile opportunity for you to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. We hope that you, too, will be just as inspired as others and consider joining us to be part of the solution to ending global poverty.

Past Corporate Sponsors: Cricket Wireless, Silver Eagle Distributors, Coca Cola Bottling, Halo Distributing, Pepsi Bottling, River City Fuels, Continental Airlines, Asurion, Frito Lay, International Bank of Commerce, Jefferson Bank, etc..

PartnershipsInAction Walks and Golf Tournaments, which are held in major cities across the USA, give Americans an opportunity to actively take part in advancing human dignity and peace around the globe and have raised over $42 million since 1995. AKF USA is registered as a publicly supported charitable organization under IRS code 501(c)(3) and 100% of the donations from the Walk and all net proceeds from the Golf Tournaments go directly to help fund AKF programs that create hope and opportunity in poverty stricken communities. Our Tax ID is # 52-1231983. In addition, funds contributed to Aga Khan Foundation U.S.A. are multiplied up to 6 times because of the Foundation’s ability to obtain matching grants from other agencies, such as the U.S. Agency for International Development.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email us at sanantonio@partnershipsinaction.org. We look forward to your generous support and contribution.

Sincerely,

Shahid Abdulla

Hope’s Door is a shelter and counseling center that offers comprehensive programs and services that are designed to help break the cycle of domestic abuse. Hope’s Door provides direct intervention and prevention services to families affected by domestic abuse in Collin County, Dallas County, and surrounding areas.

When Hope’s Door first opened its doors in 1986, the agency operated a 24-hour crisis line, but did not have the space to provide shelter. Clients were housed at local hotels. In 1989, the agency opened its own shelter and began providing temporary housing to victims of domestic abuse. Since 1989, Hope’s Door has provided safe shelter for over 3,787 women and their children, and answered over 16,000 crisis line calls.

We are very excited about our event this year and hope that it is a success.

The members of the Carl Wunsche Sr. High School PTO Board in Spring ISD are proud to present to you the Second Annual “IMAGINE” Golf Tournament to be held on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Tour 18 Golf Club in Humble, Texas, which is widely recognized as “America’s Greatest 18 Holes.” The purpose of this fundraising event will be to raise money for the Mark Jenkins Scholarship Fund, and we would like to invite you to participate.

The goal of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at Carl Wunsche Sr. High School is to promote and guard the welfare of our children and youth in our school and in our community, to support students and staff through positive involvement, and to foster a closer relationship of home to school. The PTO supports teachers and students in raising much needed funds throughout the school year for materials, teachers’ wish lists, clubs, and organizations on campus. This year, our goal is to again provide scholarships to three lucky students – one from each of the CWHS Towers.

By helping to fund this event, you will be contributing directly to the dollar amount that will go towards the Second Annual Carl Wunsche PTO Scholarship Drive, but more importantly, you will be contributing directly to the successful future of several talented, deserving Carl Wunsche Sr. High School Students. What could be more important? Sponsorship entitles you to

– send employees to golf in the tournament;

- send company representatives to promote your organization, products and/or services by distributing information, mingling with golfers and receiving official recognition; and

- introduce your company to the Carl Wunsche Sr. High School staff and PTO board members, as well as to other members of the Spring ISD community who will be involved in the event.

Green fees, range balls, putting & longest drive contests, lunch, dinner, carts and goodie-bags are included with your sponsorship. Shotgun tee-offs begin promptly at 1:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to solicit pledge support from friends, family, businesses and civic affiliations.

If you have any questions regarding Carl Wunsche Sr. High School, our PTO or participation in this event, please feel free to contact Terry Straub at (832) 764-0664 or via email at Terry_Straub@yahoo.com. Thank you in advance for your interest, generosity, and support.

Sincerely,

Justina Valencia

Did you know young Latinas have incredible odds to beat to graduate from high school or college?

  • Latinas are the fastest growing group of female school aged youth
  • Many of our young Latinas lack education and career role models among their family and peers to help them set goals
  • Latinas have the highest female high school dropout rate (42%)
  • Latinas have the highest teen pregnancy rates of any racial or ethnic group
  • Young Latinas hold the highest rates of attempted suicide

Welcome to the Annual Golf Tournament benefiting the boys and girls of Central Texas Children’s Home.  Thanks to your generous support of our last tournament you provided just over $6000 to meet the daily needs of our children!

This year’s tournament will be held at the beautiful and fun-to-play Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock, Texas.  Not only is this a great golf course, but we hope you will respond by playing and sponsoring this event so your kindness will give even more to our boys and girls this year!  We’re excited to announce that every player will be given a free round of golf at Teravista as one of the many “thank you’s” for playing in this year’s charity tournament.

In addition to the exciting contests and prizes we are preparing for you, we are excited to announce two new contests this year . . . a helicopter ball drop for prizes and a shoot-out . . . in addition to a Silent Auction at the Awards lunch after tournament play.  We are thrilled that Rudy’s BBQ is providing breakfast tacos during registration, the putting contest and your chance to warm-up with a free bucket of range balls.

Corporate and individual sponsorships are available by contacting our development office (512.243.1386 or carol@ctch.org).  Playing in our tournament or sponsoring this year’s event will allow children victimized by abuse, abandonment and neglect or suffering from an at-risk environment, a second chance to enjoy a normal life.  To learn more about Central Texas Children’s Home, please visit our website at www.ctch.org.

In addition to the Prizes Awarded above we will be hosting a Golf Ball Drop with a $300 cash prize, selling raffle tickets for our amazing raffle items such as a Flat Screen TV and silent auction.

This year’s tournament will be held at the beautful Iron Horse Golf Course. This is a great golf course and a challenging one as well. Come test your skills in this four man scramble!
